First Session Expectations
My goal is to help my clients feel comfortable during their first session with me. I hold your confidentiality, trust, and well-being as my highest priorities. I am committed to maintaining open communication, fostering an environment of trustworthiness and reliability. You can expect a safe space where your desires are valued, and your journey is met with curiosity, respect, and humility.
Our Approach
Our time together is all about you and where you would like to be in your preferred future. We will spend a brief period of time getting to know one another.
Hopefully you will have taken care of the intake information before arriving so we will have most of the first session to get to work. Typically, it is a conversation with the hopes of arriving at where you would like your future self to be.
I am a huge fan of Solution Focus Brief Therapy (SFBT). This approach to counseling does not spend lots of time focusing on what has gone wrong. I do not ignore the problem, especially if you desire to share, but I am more interested in what has gone right. You may have heard the idea that it only takes one mess up to do away with a bunch of “that-a-boys”. We do this to ourselves as well. We can have 9 good things going on and one bad thing. Somehow the one bad manages to distract us from all the good. I want to help you consider the other 9 items to help put life back in focus.
I look at things primarily through a Christian Worldview Lens. From this perspective, I would say that Satan is trying to use the one issue to put a stumbling block in front of you to prevent you from letting your Christian light shine. I want you to see the blessings and then to shine bright for you personally, for your family, for your friends, for your schoolmates, for your community, etc. Simply we will have a discussion with the hopes of bring your preferred self into focus. I look forward to working together!
